Kayaking on Local Rivers and Creeks |
|
Nescopek in 2005, great creek for small spill overs and drops. Creek drains quickly and loses its volume due to the gradient. I’m now paddling a Micro 240. |

Seal launch off a 10 ft rock. Quite the trip, attempted to run Cucumber Rapids on the left, not the main line. I missed the eddy at the top of the rapid and ended upside down, wedged between two rocks with half of the river keeping my boat on top of me. I managed to use my legs to press the boat off of me. It was the longest 10 seconds of my life. Morals of the story (1) make the eddy, (2) run the main lines. |
Finally able to surf the notorious "Swimmer’s Rapid". My EZ spins like a champ. Usuallly only the best paddlers are on this wave. When we got here the rapid was empty so I was allowed on it. |

Gunpowder dam release summer of 2001. Great little creek when everything else has dried up. Baltimore releases water from Prettyboy Reservoir to fill Loch Raven nearly every August. My boat is nearly underwater at the rapid we dubbed "Peanut Butter" due to its sticky nature. |
